High school students who wish to pursue higher education at campus-based or online colleges may want to consider applying for scholarships, such as those offered by CHS.

The energy, grains and foods producer has announced it will give financial assistance to 50 high school seniors this year through its charitable arm, the CHS Foundation.

Students who are planning to enter an agriculture-related degree program at a two- or four-year university are eligible to apply for the $1,000 scholarships.

Winners will be chosen by an independent, external selection committee based on the strength of their essays, their high school transcripts and letters of recommendation.

Qualified individuals may apply for the awards through April 1 in the University Partnerships section of the foundation's website, where current college students may also find additional scholarship options.

This year, the foundation doubled the amount of funding it devoted to its scholarship programs, which are intended to "help build the next generation of leaders in production, science technology and business agriculture," said William Nelson, the organization's president.

Similar financial aid opportunities can help students pay for online degree programs, which may allow them to gain professional experience while they further their education.
