Organization launches real estate scholarship
Despite the unstable economy, individuals are buying homes. The real estate market is improving as a reflection of this, and now may be a good time to become a realtor. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), real estate agents and brokers earned an average of $40,150 during the 2009 fiscal year.
In order to encourage more students to pursue careers in this industry, the Florida Realtors Association recently launched a scholarship program. Qualifying applicants were required to write an essay based on the prompt, "how does a realtor professional benefit the community?"
A total of three adults will receive $5,000 in order to attend college this fall. The students also won $1,000 scholarships for their district-winning essays in the Florida Realtors' 2009-2010 Scholarship and Essay Contest, which gives the learners $6,000 each. A total of 13 district winners received $28,000 in scholarship funding.
The BLS reports that employment of real estate agents and brokers is expected to increase by 14 percent over the next several years.
