Online university offers scholarships to students affected by the oil spill

In an effort to help victims of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico retain some stability in their lives, an online college has announced it will provide tuition waivers to degree seekers who have been affected by the disaster.

MUST University, an internationally accredited online school, has announced it will provide as much as $530,000 in financial aid to Gulf residents who wish to further their education in the wake of the oil spill.

A total of 10 full-tuition waivers, which are worth $8,000 each, will be disbursed to qualified candidates who are working toward a bachelors degree. The school will also offer partial scholarships that will be worth $4,500 or half of the total cost of a degree program to up to 100 applicants.

School officials say that the beneficiaries will be selected based on their demonstrable financial need and their academic accomplishments. Qualified candidates can apply by contacting one of school's counselors via telephone or the institution's website.

Brian Reeves, communication director for MUST University, said that college created this program to "invest in the community, and invest in the people who have the potential to help the community back on its feet once they've completed their education."
