Online university creates scholarship program

During the 2007-2008 school year, approximately 47 percent of all undergraduate degree candidates received tuition assistance from the government, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. However, many students received financial aid from private organizations and universities.

For example, Capella University recently announced the recipients of the Public Service Challenge. The three winners will each receive either a $10,000 scholarship to the online university, or a $10,000 charitable donation to an approved organization of their choice.

The winners were announced at a discussion panel hosted by Capella University. The event was created to join public service leaders from different disciplines to highlight effective preparations and responses to pandemic crisis situations.

Aaron Brown, moderator of the event, said that today's challenges in the public sector call for leaders with the skills to collaborate across organizational lines. He added that the university is seeking to educate students to become successful public service professionals who can benefit their individual organizations and their own careers.
