Online university announces scholarship awards
Experts say online education is more cost-effective than traditional on-campus instruction, and a new scholarship announcement from Grantham University shows that the availability of financing options may make it even more affordable.
Grantham, which is a fully online school, has awarded two four-year scholarships to a noncommissioned officer and a spouse of a noncommissioned officer. Each package is worth $36,000 and covers tuition costs, required textbooks, software, fees and shipping of the course materials.
"Continuing education is very important to our scholarship recipients and [the school] is excited to have the opportunity to make a difference in their lives and to help them achieve their goals," says university president John LaNear.
"[We have] a long-standing relationship with the association of the United States Army. We appreciate the opportunity to serve the service members, veterans and family members of the Association," he adds.
Studies have shown that salaries of those with college degrees consistently surpass the earnings of individuals without higher education.
For example, estimates from the Census Bureau for 2007 show the average earnings for men with high school education were $42,466, while those with bachelors degrees (or more) earned $88,843, which is more than twice as much.
