American veterans and active duty service members have many options to choose from when comparing online universities. Service members who are looking to advance their careers or transition into a civilian job may find that online education is the most convenient way to earn a degree.

The new GI Bill has allowed for the creation of the Yellow Ribbon program, which reduces higher education costs for veterans. The Department of Veteran Affairs has recently designated the New England College of Business and Finance a Yellow Ribbon school because it offers tuition discounts to an unlimited number of veterans.

"We have a collective obligation to extend opportunities to the men and women who volunteer to bravely serve in today's military and to defend the freedoms we so enjoy," said James Peake, Secretary of Veteran Affairs.

Web-based degree programs are ideal for many active duty service members and veterans as flexible online programs often fit into their lifestyle and budget. Enrollments in U.S.-based online universities are growing faster than the total higher education student population, according to a recent report by the Babson Survey Research Group.

Individuals who hold a degree in business may be able to double their yearly earnings within 10 years of graduation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
