Online degree candidates with bleeding disorders may apply for scholarships
Students who suffer from bleeding disorders while they pursue degrees at campus-based or online universities may seek financial aid options that can help them fund their education, such as the on offered by MedPro Rx.
The pharmacy, which provides specialized products and services to patients with chronic illnesses, has opened the application process for its Education is Power scholarship program.
Current or prospective students at any community, junior, four-year or vocational college who are U.S. citizens are eligible to apply for the awards. Entrants must also be diagnosed with a blood disorder, such as hemophilia or von Willebrand disease.
The company has committed $72,000, which will be divided among at least 20 winners in awards that will range between $500 and $2,500 in amount.
Last year, a total of 78 students across the country benefitted from the program. Since the scholarships were created five years ago, the company has disbursed $207,000 in financial aid awards.
Nancy McFarlane, president of MedPro Rx, said college students with bleeding disorders may use their degrees to obtain good jobs that provide "health insurance that protects them from the financial burden of their condition."
Students who have been diagnosed with chronic illnesses may consider enrolling in online colleges that can allow them pursue higher education while they manage their health.
