Online degree candidates may win scholarships to study abroad
Students who wish to travel while they take online courses may be eligible to apply for scholarship programs, such as those being offered by an Illinois branch of the Rotary Club.
The Rockford, Illinois, chapter of the organization has opened the application process for its annual Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships.
College freshmen who are planning to study abroad during their junior year can apply for the awards, which will help them cover the costs of overseas learning. Students whose families live in the Rockford area are eligible to submit applications.
Winners will receive up to $25,000 in financial aid that will cover round-trip transportation to one of 160 countries with a Rotary Club chapter, tuition, fees, educational supplies and language classes, if necessary.
While they are travelling, awardees will visit Rotary Clubs, districts, schools and civic organizations to complete humanitarian and volunteer work.
The service requirements of the scholarship program are part of the club's goal of "increasing awareness of and respect for cultural differences by sending ambassadors of goodwill to study in another country," according to the Rotary Club website.
Students enrolled in online universities may consider similar financial aid opportunities that could allow them to explore other cultures while they pursue higher degrees.
