Online degree candidates may benefit from fast food chain's scholarship program

High school students who are planning to enroll in campus-based or online universities next semester may consider applying for scholarships, such as those that are available through Carl's Jr.

The fast food chain has announced it will offer $1,000 awards for the 11th consecutive year through its Carl N. and Margaret Karcher Founders' Scholarship program.

High school students and graduates who are entering a college-level or vocational degree program for the first time are eligible to apply for the awards. Candidates must be no older than 21 years of age and reside in one of the state where the company operates, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.

Winners will be chosen based on their academic achievements, involvement in school and community activities as well as their goals for the future. A total of 60 awardees will be selected.

Qualified individuals may apply for the awards through February 1 on the Carl's Jr. website.

Graduating seniors who plan to pursue higher education may consider taking online courses that can help them make the transition from high school to college-level study.
