High school seniors who are planning to enroll in campus-based or online college next year may consider applying for scholarships, such as those available from Pennsylvania American Water.

Through its Stream of Learning Scholarship Program, the company will provide financial assistance to college students who are pursuing degrees in fields related to the water and wastewater industries.

Individuals who are studying biology, chemistry as well as environmental science or engineering are invited to apply for the scholarships.

Company officials will select 10 students to receive the $2,000 scholarships, which they may put toward the cost of tuition at the school of their choice.

The scholarships are intended to recognize "extraordinary young people who will share [the company's] commitment to maintaining public health, protecting the environment and promoting economic development throughout the commonwealth," said Kathy L. Pape, president of Pennsylvania American Water.

Applicants must reside in one of the company's service areas and plan to enter a two- or four-year degree program next fall.

Students who plan to pursue degrees in science-related fields may seek similar financial aid options to help them finance higher education at classroom-based or online universities.
