Nurses can receive financial aid for online degree programs

Nursing professionals who wish to enroll in online courses to enhance their qualifications may apply for scholarships, such as those offered by the North Carolina Nurse Scholars Commission.

The organization has announced the availability of scholarships through its Nurse Scholars Program, which provides financial assistance to nursing students pursuing associates, bachelors and masters degrees.

This year's program is expected to benefit approximately 400 students.

Winners in undergraduate programs will receive between $3,000 and $5,000 in scholarship money, while graduate awards will range from $3,250 to $6,500 per recipient.

Awardees of all levels are required to work as licensed, registered nurses within the state after graduation. Nurses who do not fulfill this obligation will have to repay their scholarships at 10 percent interest.

Qualified candidates in associates and masters programs can submit their applications through May 3, while bachelors degree candidates must mail their materials by the end of February.

Working nurses may consider seeking similar financial aid programs to help them pay for classes at online universities, which can allow them to complete their coursework around a busy schedule.
