New partnership to benefit veterans entering online degree programs

Blackboard and the Imagine America Foundation have announced they will collaborate to help military veterans pay for online courses that can help them start civilian careers.

The technology company, which provides tools that help online educators and their students communicate electronically, has made a five-year commitment to support one of the foundation's grant programs for military members.

Since 2004, the Imagine America Foundation has offered its IAF Ldrship Award, which has provided financial assistance for current and former soldiers who wish to obtain an online education to help them develop their professional skills.

The program - which is available for qualified veterans, reservists, active-duty and honorably discharged members of the military - is one of many of the foundation's efforts to help graduating high school seniors, adult learners and veterans gain career training.

Tim Hill, president of Blackboard's professional education division, said supporting the occupational development of "working adults, parents and military veterans…will have a major impact on the health and future of our nation's economy and workforce."

Enrolling in online courses may help workers and students alike gain the skills they will need to foster successful careers while enabling them to continue working.
