Military students can win scholarships to finance online degree programs
Spouses and children of active-duty military service members who wish to enroll in campus-based or online universities may find financial assistance through scholarship programs, such as those offered by ThanksUSA.
The organization, which helps military families reach their higher education goals, announced it awarded 200 scholarships to students whose parents or spouses are currently serving.
Relatives of members of all branches of the armed forces - including the National Guard, Reserves as well as those who have been killed or wounded - were eligible to apply for the $3,000 awards.
ThanksUSA announced the final round of 100 winners earlier this month. The first 100 awardees were named in the fall.
Michele Stork, executive director of Thanks USA, said organizers hope the scholarships will "help brighten the holidays for military families, especially those with loved ones serving overseas."
Winners were selected based on financial need, leadership qualities as well as participation in school and community activities.
Recipients of the awards are allowed to use them to help pay for tuition at campus-based or online college as well as vocational or trade schools.
