Although higher education in law can lead to a lucrative career, many students do not have the means to cover the high cost of an advanced degree in this field. Fortunately, many members of the legal field are launching initiatives to ensure that qualified students receive the funding they need to achieve their educational goals.

For example, Sidley Austin LLP recently announced a partnership with MetLife to improve its Sidley Prelaw Scholars program.

The New York-based law firm offers a financial aid package that includes a $2,500 scholarship as well as reimbursement for an LSAT preparation course and application fees for as many as seven law schools. These awards are available to college students who are in their junior or senior year of undergraduate study at a campus-based or online college.

Now, MetLife has announced it will supplement the program by offering internships to beneficiaries through its 2010 Summer Law Clerk program. The 10-week positions will be available in the company's New York City offices, where interns will have the opportunity to network with successful lawyers and business professionals.
