Medical research foundation awards scholarship to dental student
During its annual awards dinner last month, the French-American Foundation for Medical Research and Education (FFMRE) announced the winner of its first annual dental scholarship.
The scholarship, which is worth $5,000 to one student, was created in partnership with San Francisco-based dentist Dr David Blende. Through the award program, he aims to boost the career of a student who wishes to work with dental patients with special needs.
"We wanted to use this scholarship to support a young dentist preparing to enter this difficult, but ultimately very satisfying field," Blende said.
Although the FFRMRE has been offering scholarships to promising students for nearly 50 years, this is its first financial aid package that is devoted strictly to dental students. Through scholarships and grants, the organization aims to support research and education for the benefit, health, and well-being of all people.
By partnering to create the dental scholarship, Blende and the FFRMRE hope to showcase the impact dental health can have on overall physical health, according to organizers of the foundation's financial aid program.
