The Berkshire Business and Professional organization has announced the availability of college scholarships for working women in Massachusetts, iBerskshires.com reports.

Through its charitable affiliate, the Berkshire County Education Council, the organization will provide financial aid to help professional women further their education. The awards may be used to help cover the cost of tuition, books, uniforms, childcare or other expenses incurred at a campus-based or online degree program.

To be eligible for the awards, applicants must be female professionals living in Berkshire County who are over 25 years of age and who are enrolled in a full- or part-time program at an accredited college, vocational school or online university. Eligible students will be required to write a personal statement that should not exceed two pages.

April 16 is the deadline to submit these materials, and the winners will be named in June.

Members of the organization's scholarship committee will determine the amount of the awards, which will not be worth more than $500 each. Last year, a total of $2,500 was disbursed to qualified businesswomen in the area.

The program was created as part of the organization's mission to "promote full participation, equity and economic self-sufficiency for America's working women," according to its website.
