Marketing association gives scholarships to Hispanic students
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, tuition assistance can be available in the forms of grants, scholarships, loans and federal work-study programs. These funds are often given to students who are from a specific demographic background, study a particular subject or demonstrate financial need.
In order to help degree seekers earn higher education, the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) awarded $10,000 in financial aid to five Southern California-based Hispanic students pursuing a career in public relations at its 26th Annual PRemio Awards and Scholarships Gala. The organization also introduced a community service award in memory of industry leader and activist Esther Renteria, who was a co-founder of the National Hispanic Media Coalition and a former HPRA president.
At the event, HRPA honored industry leaders as well as Hispanic public relations campaigns, and awarded scholarships to students entering the communications field.
Earlier this year, the organization opened a New York chapter and presented at the first-ever Hispanic PR and Social Marketing Conference in Dallas.
Sallie Mae - a provider of student loans - reports that more than $168 billion in financial aid was available during the 2008-2009 academic year.
