Law enforcement officers in online degree programs may receive scholarships
Sworn law enforcement officers who wish to enroll in online courses to further their education may benefit from scholarship programs, such as the one currently available from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).
The organization has announced it is accepting nominations for its second annual scholarship program, which aims to help security professionals working in schools complete postsecondary degree programs.
To be eligible for the $2,500 award, nominees must be NASRO members who are enrolled in any associates or bachelors program in law enforcement, criminal justice, business, public administration or psychology.
Winners will be selected by the NASRO Scholarship Committee, which will evaluate candidates on the impact they have made in their agency, school, community or the organization. The committee will also examine each candidate's use of technology to protect people, information and property in their careers.
Dick Caster, the association's executive director, said the program intends to "advance [law enforcement professionals' education and career[s]" in order to bring "new ideas and expertise to school security and protection."
Beneficiaries of such financial aid opportunities may consider enrolling in online universities that could help them factor higher education into a busy work schedule.
