Kansas-sponsored college savings plan receives top ranking

Those looking for educational investment options may be interested to learn that Savingforcollege.com, a financial information resource, has released a new report on the best performing 529 plans.

In addition to the Schwab 529 College Savings Plan sponsored by the state of Kansas, which was named as the top plan, one other outstanding performer was South Carolina's Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan.

"The second quarter of 2009 was a period of strong recovery for many 529 plans," says Savingforcollege.com founder Joseph Hurley.

"Just as with IRAs, accounts invested at least partially in stocks regained some of the value lost over the many months since 2007," he adds.

This may be welcome news to adults seeking to return to school to earn or complete a degree. Experts suggest that those who would like to minimize their costs of education without compromising quality should consider enrolling in an accredited online program offering a degree in one of the fast growing fields such as healthcare, technology or business.

According to the Census Bureau, in 2007 men with bachelors degrees earned more than twice as much as those without higher education.

The complete ranking can be found on the Savingsforcollege.com website.
