High school seniors in Iowa who plan to study conservation at a campus-based or online college may want to consider applying for scholarships, such as those that are available through the Jasper County branch of Pheasants Forever.

The organization has announced it will give one scholarship to a high school senior who intends to pursue a college degree in conservation, natural resources, environmental education, conservation law enforcement, biology or a related field.

Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have participated in community service activities may apply for the awards by submitting an autobiography, an essay and two letters of recommendation.

Finalists will be selected to participate in face-to-face interviews with members of a scholarship committee, which will then select the winner.

Representatives from the organization say the $500 award is intended to encourage students to gain the expertise they will need to solve nature-related problems such as the destruction of wildlife habitat, water quality issues, climate change and extinction rates.

Prospective students may benefit from similar financial aid opportunities, which could help them pay for tuition at a campus-based or online school.
