Healthcare students awarded $2,000 scholarship
In 2008, the healthcare industry provided more than 14.3 million jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As the baby boomer generation ages, and medical technology increases, people with training in healthcare-related fields will be in high demand.
In order to help more adults become prepared for degrees in this industry, the Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey (HRET) - an educational affiliate of the New Jersey Hospital Association - recently awarded three students with $2,000 scholarships. HRET has given more than $160,000 in scholarships over the past several years.
The Health Career Scholarship fund provides assistance to applicants who are enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate health career program, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need.
This scholarship could help many students advance their careers, as the U.S. Department of Labor recently projected that in the coming decade, 90 percent of new high-growth, high-wage jobs will require some postsecondary education.
