Full-tuition scholarships awarded to military service members
Military service member are eligible for many private and government scholarships, grants and other financial aid. These individuals often benefit from scholarships to online universities, as these schools provide the flexibility necessary for service members who are advancing in their career.
For example, Grantham University recently announced a partnership with the Commissioning Committee of the U.S.S. Missouri - a nonprofit charity created to raise funds for the Navy's newest nuclear attack submarine - to offer a full-tuition scholarship to one crew member on the new vessel.
The winning member may use the financial aid to earn an undergraduate or graduate degree at Grantham, which has been providing distance education to military members for more than 40 years. The scholarship includes tuition costs, required textbooks, software and a laptop, which will help the winner complete their education while at sea.
"Historically, obtaining an undergraduate or graduate degree while serving on a tour of duty at sea was nearly impossible, until the advent of online education," said Dr. Cynthia Hoss, interim president of Grantham University.
The school, and many similar online colleges, offers military scholarship programs and Veterans Services staff members to ensure that education is accessible and affordable for all active duty, reserve, guard, veteran and military family members.
