Friction management company offers scholarships to children of employees
The Timken Company Education Fund has announced the beneficiaries of its scholarship program, which is intended to help students across the globe pursue higher education.
A total of $310,000 in financial aid was awarded to 38 prospective college students who are the children of the friction management product manufacturer. The winners may use their scholarships to cover the cost of tuition, books, fees, supplies, room and board as well as transportation at the campus-based or online college of their choice.
Each financial aid package is renewable for up to three years or the amount of time it takes the winner to earn a bachelors degree.
The awardees - whose scholarships were disbursed in $5,000, $10,000 and $30,000 amounts - were chosen based on their educational qualifications. Company officials say that the selection committee gave extra consideration to students who were planning to pursue college degrees in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
Since its inception 52 years ago, the program has provided financial assistance to more than 450 students. Company officials increased the amount allocated for the scholarship program in order to increase the number of awards it could provide.
