Foundation receives funding to begin scholarship program for radiology
The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Foundation has announced plans to start a scholarship program to benefit those wishing to pursue careers in the field.
The program will be funded in part by a legacy gift from Dr. Michael E. Edwards, an interventional radiologist and SIR member from Corinth, Mississippi, and his wife, Sherri Edwards.
The couple decided to include a $1 million planned-gift donation to the foundation in their will to "ensure interventional radiology's future," Dr. Edwards said.
The foundation has also launched a new website to encourage generosity from other SIR members to increase funding for its planned scholarships. The website offers online programs and information on ways to contribute to the fund.
"This type of focused support is critical to the future of interventional radiology," said Dr. Michael D. Darcy, SIR Foundation chair.
Dr. Darcy added that the scholarships are intended to "bring new talented technicians to the field " and "improve patient care."
Those wishing to pursue a career in healthcare may consider the opportunities offered by online degree programs.
