Doctoral degree candidates may be unaware of the numerous scholarships that are available for advanced education seekers. Minority learners may have even more financial aid opportunities as many American universities seek to increase diversity among student populations. Private organizations and local governments often provide scholarships for individuals who show strong academic potential.

For example, the KPMG Foundation recently announced that it has awarded scholarships to 47 minority accounting doctoral students. Each recipient was awarded $10,000 for costs associated with their doctoral degrees.

KPMG awarded financial aid packages to 12 new college students and renewed aid for 35 existing scholars. Each scholarship is renewable for as many as five years.

"We are pleased to provide financial support, career guidance and other resources to each of these talented men and women as they move closer to fulfilling their dreams of becoming business professors," said Bernie Milano, KPMG Foundation president.

The program was created to increase diversity and minority representation in business schools. Over the last 16 years, KPMG has benefited 288 African American, Hispanic and Native American scholars who were pursuing doctoral degrees.

As of September, approximately 400 minority students will be enrolled in business related doctoral programs.
