Students enrolled in or planning to enter online universities may be able to lower their tuition costs through a new contest from Firestone Complete Auto Care.

The tire manufacturer has announced it will open the Together For Life video contest to high school and college students.

Firestone is challenging students to produce videos examining the issue of hunger among the elderly.

Qualified applicants can submit 60- to 120-second videos addressing one facet of senior hunger that will be judged on their concept, effectiveness in delivering a message, ability to invoke a reaction from viewers and creativity.

The contest is intended to "[encourage] students" while "build[ing] awareness of senior hunger and inspir[ing] viewers to get involved to help solve this important problem," said Victoria Condell, the company's director of public affairs.

Scholarships in the amount of $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 will be awarded to the students who submit the top three entries. A set of Bridgestone or Firestone tires will also be awarded to the 10 finalists.

Students can submit their entries between October 25 and November 7 on the contest's website.

To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens between ages 16 and 21 and attending any accredited secondary, trade or post-secondary school, including online universities.
