Financial service provider awards scholarships to public school graduates
In an effort to encourage public school students to pursue their educational goals, financial services firm Stone and Youngberg provides financial aid to California-based degree seekers.
Company officials recently announced the winners of the Benjamin J. Baum education scholarship, which awards financial assistance to graduates of public schools who are planning to attend the University of California at Berkeley.
The award was created in memory of Ben Baum, who began working in the company's mail room in 1932 and eventually served as the firm's managing partner for 35 years. The University of California at Berkeley is Baum's alma mater.
Beneficiaries of the program are selected based on their achievements in high school as well as their character attributes, which may include academic achievement, leadership skills and drive to succeed. The winners receive $2,000 for each year they are enrolled in the school.
Ken Williams, the company's president and CEO, said that the program is intended to "assist local students to pursue a higher education."
This is the seventh consecutive year the financial company has offered the scholarship.
