High school seniors who wish to pursue careers in fashion may be able to finance higher education through scholarship contests, such as the Passion for Fashion Competition.

The award program, which is sponsored by the Art Institutes, has announced this year's winners, who will receive full-tuition scholarships to the education system's Kansas City and Hollywood branches.

In addition to financial aid, each awardee was given a VIP trip to Fashion Week in New York City, a $500 shopping spree, as well as the opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet at Seventeen magazine's offices and have lunch with one of the publication's style experts.

Second- and third-prize scholarships of $5,000 and $4,000 were given to each of the runners up in the contest's two categories, which were fashion design and fashion design marketing as well as merchandising and fashion retail management.

The annual contest is intended to reward "young people [who are] already showing enormous talent and taking so much pride in the work they create," said Bruce E. Dempsey, the company's vice president and academic affairs specialist.

Budding fashion professionals may wish to enter similar contests that can help them further their education at campus-based or online colleges.
