In order to stimulate drive new workers into the Texas workforce, a new program has recently been introduced that will provide scholarships to students enter fields where labor is most urgently needed.
Every Chance Funds is the name of the program, and it is composed of three sub-programs. One of these funds will give money to organizations that help students prepare for technical careers, while another will provide financial assistance to colleges and universities seeking to buy more modern equipment. The third impacts students the most directly by offering $5 million worth of scholarships over the next two years.
"With this initiative, we're focusing on job training and two-year degrees in high-demand technical fields. Using associate degrees and certificate programs, we know opportunities exist for people with these skills," said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs quoted by the Austin Business Journal.
Combs is committed to increasing enrollment vocational programs relating to industries in which Texas is shorthanded.
Specific application dates for the scholarship program have not yet been released, but the funds will be available for use at the student's choice of school, meaning they can enroll in any college they choose, whether traditional or online.
