Employers give scholarship to cover costs of online pharmacology degree

Pharmacology is one of the fastest growing corners of the healthcare industry. Employment of pharmacists is expected to grow by 17 percent over the next eight years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports.

Many online universities are now offering doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) programs, and several scholarships exist for pharmacology students as well. As with many professions, employers will sometimes offer employees opportunities to go back to school for higher education.

The Association of Clinical Research Organizations is now offering employees tuition-free enrollment in up to two online master of science in pharmacy courses at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy (UFCoP).

“Pharmacy policy education allows the results of our work to quickly and efficiently benefit those who need it most,” said David Brushwood, UFCoP program director.

Students who are enrolled in a pharmacology masters program can expect to study pharmaceutical policy, clinical reasearch ethics and patient safety, as well as institutional leadership.

In 2008, the annual salary for a pharmacist ranged between $77,390 and $131,440 per year, the BLS reports.
