Students who are enrolled in campus-based or online degree programs in design may be able to receive financial aid for their undergraduate work through a new initiative from the producers of Baltimore Fashion Week.

Butterfly Productions has announced it will help degree seekers pay for tuition through its Baltimore Fashion Week Design Scholarship Award program.

Individuals who are pursuing a bachelors degree or equivalent certification in fashion or apparel and textile design will be eligible to receive the awards, which are worth $200 each. Applicants must also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and obtain two letters of recommendation.

In addition, qualified candidates will be required to submit three original color illustrations of their own designs for a spring/summer or fall/winter collection. July 31 is the deadline for this year's scholarships.

The scholarships are intended to reward and inspire "students…who have a genuine love for fashion," said Sharad Nixon, CEO of Butterfly Productions.

Design students at online colleges may have time to participate in similar financial aid programs, as many of these schools offer flexible scheduling options.
