Department of Education awards university with grant for new degree offerings
Payscale.com, a research company, says that average salaries for individuals who have obtained bachelors degrees range between $44,113 and $86,836 per year. In order to help more adults earn higher education, the U.S. Department of Education's Hispanic-Serving Institutions program recently awarded grants to a number of universities that serve Latino students.
For example, Woodbury University recently announced that it received a $3.2 million grant from the government organization to establish new bachelor's degree programs in digital film making, media technology and game design.
"This grant is important in ensuring educational access for students in minority communities and encouraging the economic vitality of the entire region," said Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), who urged U.S. Department of Education to fund this project. "Educating students in the rapidly advancing field of digital entertainment and harnessing the creativity of Woodbury's student body in particular, strikes me as worthwhile goals for these federal funds"
Internship and career services programs will also be offered through funding from the grant.
