Community college students awarded grant to study abroad
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer and information systems mangers earned an average of $112,210 during the 2008 fiscal year. Those who wish to launch careers in this field may benefit from enrolling in a degree program at a community college, as these institutions often provide learners with many academic opportunities.
For example, Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) recently received funding from the National Science Foundation in order to provide computer information technology students with international experience. As a result, BHCC will receive $55,000.
"This unique opportunity... addresses the critical need for an international perspective that will help our community college students become even more competitive as they pursue their career goals," said Deborah Boisvert, Boston-area Advanced Technology Connections principal investigator, who will administer the grant.
As a result of the funding, eight BHCC students will have the opportunity to study next summer at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. Upon their return, they will complete their degrees at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
