California students may use state funding to pay for online education
California residents who wish to pursue higher education at campus-based or online colleges may be eligible to receive financial assistance through the state's Cal Grant program.
The initiative, which is the nation's largest need-based grant program, provides financial aid to students who are attending most public, private, independent or career colleges in the state.
Qualified high school seniors and recent graduates may receive up to $9,700 per year to help them pay for tuition, fees, textbooks, living expenses and equipment that is required by their degree programs.
To apply for the program, eligible students need to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid and a Cal Grant GPA Verification form.
Individuals who are interested in receiving state-funded aid may also attend Cash for College workshops that will be held across the state. At these events, applicants may find help filling out their forms or seek additional financial opportunities.
The California Student Aid Commission, which sponsors the Cal Grant program, offers financial assistance programs for foster children, teachers, nurses, military members and other individuals who wish to further their education at campus-based or online schools.
