Business school awards scholarships to case competition winners
MBA students at the University at Buffalo recently had the opportunity to compete for financial aid at the school's Steven C. Verney MBA Case Competition.
All first-year students at the school were invited to participate in the event, which was held last week. Competitors were challenged to work in teams to read and analyze a business case from Harvard University, and compose a report including recommendations for the company detailed in the study.
A panel of judges determined the top four teams, who were asked to turn their findings into extended presentations. Arjang Assad, dean of the college's School of Management, and Kenneth Fick, a graduate of the school who now works as the director of forensic and litigation consulting for FTI Consulting, selected two teams from these finalists to receive scholarships. Members of the first-place team received $500 awards, and second-place winners received $250 each.
This is the fourth year the school has hosted the competition, which was created to honor alumnus Steven C. Verney, the founder of Allstate Insurance Company in Chicago.
