Adult learner receives full-tuition scholarship from online university
Due to the unstable economy, many Americans are finding alternative ways to fund their education. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, learners may be eligible for grants, federal work-study programs, scholarships, student loans or employer tuition support programs. In addition to these options, many universities offer financial assistance to incoming or currently enrolled students.
For example, Ashworth College recently announced that it awarded a full-tuition scholarship to this month's winner of the Career Stimulus Package Scholarship program. The recipient was selected from more than 300,000 applicants.
The Career Stimulus Package $4 million Scholarship campaign was designed to highlight the need for financial aid, as well as promote awareness and interest in online education. To apply for the scholarship, prospective students must explain why they want to return to school, what they hope to accomplish, how online education would help them accomplish these goals and their personal stories of overcoming adversity.
"Thanks to the incredible generosity of our partner schools, adults are able to go back to school without having to worry about how they are going to fund their education," said Terrence Thomas, executive vice president of marketing for the Career Stimulus Package Scholarship program.
In addition to the winning scholarship, Ashworth College granted an additional 29 financial aid gifts. In total, the Career Stimulus Package campaign awarded more than 100 full-tuition scholarships to adult learners.
