College joins with corporations to address sustainability education

As the country works to become more environmentally conscious, a number of universities are expanding their sustainable academic programs. Many schools are hosting discussions on how to improve and increase eco-friendly education across multiple fields.

For example, the College of William and Mary is launching the first-ever collaborative effort between undergraduate universities and corporations to address the lack of sustainability education. The inaugural Corporate and College Collaborative for Sustainability (CCCS) will take place this October.

"Sustainability is a dynamic and cross-disciplinary concept - and its scope is rapidly growing to encompass environmental, social, economic and cultural concerns," said Christopher Adkins, director of the undergraduate business program at the college and one of the co-founders of CCCS.

The CCCS participants will help identify best practices and key concepts for a sustainability curriculum, investigate critical leadership skills for students, explore collaborative project opportunities between corporations and universities and discuss ways the new generation can make an impact on corporations' sustainability practices from within.
