Ashford University launches new early childhood education degree

In an effort to offer greater opportunities to students who are looking to teach and mentor young children, officials at Ashford University recently announced that the school has launched an online associate of arts degree in early childhood education.

The new program is designed for applicants who are either currently employed in the area of early childhood education and who need college credit to progress in their career path, or for those who are looking to break into the burgeoning field.

"The mission of the College of Education at Ashford University is to prepare teachers with professional expertise and integrity in service to a diverse community," said dean Joen Rottler. "The opportunity to expand our program and support students who work with our youngest children to increase their knowledge and expertise is wonderful."

Graduates of the online degree offering may find careers as teacher's aides, managers of childcare centers or as preschool teachers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of preschool teachers is expected to grow by 19 percent over the next decade, which is faster than the average of all other occupations.
