USC's School of Education earns prestigious online education award
University of Southern California's (USC) Rossier School of Education has recently been selected as this year's recipient of the Best Practices Award for the Innovative Use of Technology by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. The school was recognized for its use of educational technology for its online masters degree in teaching program.
The program integrates interactive lectures using animation, streaming video and other web technologies, making it the first degree offering of its kind from a research university.
"We congratulate the Rossier School on receiving this prestigious award," said USC executive vice president and provost C. L. Max Nikias. "The school's groundbreaking new online degree blends state-of-the-art Web 2.0 technology with hands-on experience in real classrooms."
The masters of teaching program, which began last June, is expected to double the size of the Rossier School of Education by the end of the spring semester.
Online education can be a flexible option for those who are looking to earn their degree but find it difficult to attend conventional on-campus classes.
