University of New England sponsors benefit for the disabled

Officials with the University of New England (UNE) recently announced that the school's online masters of education program sponsored the National Inclusion Project's 3rd annual Golfing For Inclusion benefit event, which was held on February 1.

The university lent its support to the event in order to increase awareness of the challenges that young people with disabilities face on a daily basis. A few years ago, UNE launched a masters degree with a concentration in inclusion education to help train teachers to work with disabled children who cannot participate in normal school activities.

"Our masters in education enables teachers to develop creative, effective teaching strategies that foster a truly inclusive atmosphere for students with disabilities," said Douglas Lynch, chair of the UNE Department of Education.

"We can not only prepare students with disabilities for a more independent life, but we can also prepare able-bodied students to think, work and live in a highly inclusive atmosphere," he added.

The event, which took place at the Country Club at Marisol in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was hosted by singer Clay Aiken and golfer Wayne Player.
