University of Nebraska creates new online learning platform
In an attempt to provide its student body with more flexible options, the University of Nebraska has announced that it has created a new distance learning platform called Online Worldwide.
Using the new technology, prospective students can access more than 80 accredited bachelors and masters degree programs through an online format, according to KCAU-TV.com. Students can also enroll in several online certificate and endorsement programs that were previously only available through on-campus offerings.
Potential courses of study include biology, agriculture, education, computer science, engineering, journalism, public administration and business.
University president J.B. Milliken told the news source that the decision to offer all of its distance learning degree programs through one online platform was an effort to tap into the "rapidly growing national and international market for online learning."
Currently, nearly 4 million students are taking online courses and earning online college degrees. At the secondary school level, more than 700,000 high school students are taking one or more courses online and nearly 40 states have established state-led virtual schools.
