Many working adult degree seekers wish to enroll in a flexible and convenient nonsecular academic program. In response to this demand, a growing number of Christian universities are integrating online coursework into their degree programs.

For example, Liberty University recently announced that it will offer a minor in intercultural studies online. This program may benefit those who wish to learn the fundamentals of modern missions and how to inspire others to serve. In order to meet program requirements, students must complete 15 credit hours in the minor, including an introduction to missions and a cultural anthropology course.

The curriculum for this program includes a general introduction to world missions, trends and issues, theology and history of missions, and cultural anthropology for intercultural ministries, according to Don Fanning, chair of the intercultural studies department at Liberty.

"The minor in intercultural studies provides all the fundamental background knowledge for participating in global ministries or facilitating a church mission's ministry," said Fanning.

A growing number of students are befitting from web-based education, as a recent Babson-Sloan report shows that more than one in four students are enrolled in at least one online course.
