University aims to increase access to its online programs

A growing number of universities are making efforts to improve access to web-based programs as more students pursue online education. For example, the University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout) recently announced that it is offering more than one-quarter of the approximately 70 online degree and certificate programs through a new eCampus website.

The initiative will enable students to search for specialized programs and locate advisers, an application, or registration information through a single website. The announcement came during National Distance Learning Week, which is dedicated to creating greater awareness and appreciation for online learning.

"Online education is extremely important, as it provides adult learners throughout the state with access to UW-Stout's career-oriented undergraduate and graduate programs," said provost Julie Furst-Bowe. "UW-Stout currently offers 18 online and off-campus degree programs, and we are developing additional online programs to meet the needs of both students and employers."

The new website will serve its 1,013 students who are currently enrolled in online or distance learning programs.
