Teacher receives recognition for creating successful online course
More than 4.6 million students nationwide were enrolled in online courses during the 2008 academic year, according to a recent report by the Babson Survey Research Group and the Sloan Consortium. Many of these enrollments are due in part to the vast improvements that many universities have made to Internet-based education.
For example, Gregory Carroll, an associate professor in the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG) School of Music was recently given the UNCG Division of Continual Learning Award for Excellence in Online Education. He was honored for his work on Music Appreciation 241, an award-winning web-based course that he helped to create.
"Dr. Carroll is an inspiring and creative educator who is always open to new possibilities," said Robert Brown, dean of UNCG Division of Continual Learning.
He added that Carroll has translated his passion for music into an online course that has earned raves from students, instructional designers and fellow educators, making him the ideal candidate for the award.
