Syracuse University set to celebrate online education week
The Syracuse UniversitySchool of Information Studies has said it will utilize its resources to promote and support online education during the National Distance Learning Week, which is celebrated from November 9-13.
For that purpose, the school also created a website which features, among other things, the Syracuse Sampler, which is a blog that provides free online access to lectures, presentations and technology tutorials from iSchool experts, according to The Post-Standard.
"By sharing our recourses and experience and encouraging others to do the same we hope to promote excellence in online education and to provide a forum where educators can learn from one another," said Katie Schisa, chairwoman of the school's Task Force on Online Education and the director of the Web-based Information Science Education Consortium, quoted by the news source.
Online education is hailed as a cost-effective and flexible option, which can be particularly beneficial for working adults juggling various responsibilities while trying to earn a college degree.
According to the Census Bureau, individuals with a bachelors degree (or more) earn about twice as much as those who only have a high school diploma.
