Southwestern college launches two new online associate's degree programs
The growing trend in online education has prompted many universities to incorporate more web-based courses into their programs. These initiatives are a result of the demand for flexible coursework from nontraditional students, such as working adults or parents.
In an effort to accommodate those who wish to earn a degree in a convenient online setting, New Mexico State University-Carlsbad (NMSU) is offering two new online associate's degrees, The Current Argus reports. The offerings include associate's of arts (AA) and science (AS) programs.
"Having our request to provide fully online associate's degree programs approved by the Higher Learning Commission is exciting news," Russell Hardy, NMSU-Carlsbad president, told the news source. "These online degree programs will further NMSU-Carlsbad's ability to achieve its mission, which is to provide access to quality educational opportunities and to support the economic and cultural needs of the citizens of southeast New Mexico."
According to Hardy, the commission's approval of the request will allow the school to better serve its constituents who live in rural areas or whose work schedules prevent face-to-face learning by providing outstanding academic programs and courses in a flexible and convenient manner, the news source reports.
