School creates online course for construction managers
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of construction workers is expected to increase by 19 percent over the next eight years. In order to meet the growing demand for trained professionals in this field, many colleges and universities are enhancing their course offerings that are related to this industry.
For example, University of California (UC), Irvine Extension recently launched an online course in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) construction management, Centre Daily Times reports. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system.
"This easily accessible course will provide participants with the knowledge needed to successfully navigate LEED compliance for buildings and construction projects, increasing their value to employers," said Kenneth Howe, a course instructor and industry professional who has over 20 years of experience.
The class will cover topics such as the LEED Green Building Rating System and the regulations that are required for businesses that are looking for leadership in this area. It was designed to provide learners with the ability to explain the concept of sustainable construction.
