Online university offers web resource to health professionals

Officials with the College of Applied Health Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago have recently announced the launch of a new website for the school's online health information management degree programs.

The website is designed to provide a guide for applicants who are interested in advanced health informatics degree offerings, but also serves as a resource for practicing physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other clinicians who are looking for information regarding their field of study.

Additionally, students enrolled in one of the programs can utilize the website to explore career opportunities that are available in the industry.

"We've found that the online learning environment is the best, most efficient and most effective way to deliver health informatics education to working professionals," says Larry Pawola, program director of health informatics at the university.

"Our goal was to build a website that was both a resource for students and health informatics professionals," he added.

Currently, nearly 4 million students are taking online courses and earning online college degrees. At the secondary school level, more than 700,000 high school students are taking one or more courses online and nearly 40 states have established state-led virtual schools.
