Online enrollment at Boise State University continues to grow
Due to the increase in demand for flexible degree offerings, officials with Boise State University (BSU) have announced that enrollment in online and distance education courses at the school has increased by 26 percent over the last year, according to the Arbiter Online.
Currently, the university offers 225 online courses and 13 certificate programs that are delivered through a variety of technologies, including video-conferencing, telecourses and teleweb classes.
"As outlined in Boise State's strategic plan, we are working hard to provide flexible course delivery options that meet the needs of students with demanding schedules, or who live a distance from our main campus or regional sites," said Janet Atkinson, director of distance education at the university.
Even with recent influx of online degree programs, the majority of BSU students are still interested in seeing more options.
In a recent poll of the student body, a total of 75 percent of respondents said that they hope the school continues to add more distance education offerings.
Nearly one in four U.S. students take at least some college courses online, up from one in 10 in 2002, Reuters reports.
