Online college adds school of pharmacy
Midway College, a provider of accredited online education, has recently announced the creation of a school of pharmacy in Paintsville, Kentucky.
The new school will be temporarily located at the Big Sandy Regional Technical Center on the Mayo Campus until a permanent location is established. The school will enroll up to 80 students at its current campus and nearly 320 students when fully operational.
"This project will bring a hundred good paying jobs to the region during a time of high unemployment rates," said Republican Representative Hal Rogers, who attended the announcement ceremony.
"It also builds educational resources at home to continue the mission of providing quality opportunities so our best and brightest students don't have to leave Kentucky for professional degrees and careers," he added.
Meanwhile, the college has announced that it has hired Lanny Foss as the founding dean of the school of pharmacy. Foss has been working for Midway since May of 2009 on this initiative.
Online education can be a flexible option for people who are looking to earn their degree but find it difficult to attend traditional on-campus classes.
